Editing

What is a Developmental Edit?

The developmental edit looks at your manuscript as a whole. The editor looks at your document with objectivity—as both a reader and a writer.  The focus is on how you’ve told your story.
My job is to help you create a true story that reads like fiction. This involves a constellation of elements, including structure and flow, character development, scene, and narrative arc.
To begin with, I will ask two questions—”What is this story about?” and “Why do you feel that this story needs to be told?”
I will evaluate your use of specific and vivid details to create scene. Finally, I’ll alert you to syntax patterns and suggest corrective measures.
You’ll receive comments in the margins of your manuscript, a global critique, and two one-hour Zoom sessions.  The final revisions are yours!

CRITIQUE
Short manuscript critique
The critique will provide a constructive analysis of a short manuscript (less than 10,000 words). I’ll highlight strengths and weaknesses, offer feedback and suggestions for improvement.
This service will help the writer revise and polish a manuscript for inclusion in a memoir or as a stand-alone piece. The critique includes two Zoom sessions, at the start and completion of our collaboration.

COACHING

Personal Guidance

Persons who have have started a narrative (or have an idea for one) will “meet” with me in individual Zoom consultations. The goal is to help you understand your story more deeply so you can write forward. You will come away with knowledge of your writing strengths and challenges.
At the first one-hour meeting, the writer and instructor will custom-design a program and  a curriculum.
